Where's Our Spake Gone?

2016

I was selected as one of four bursary artist's to work on 'Where's Our Spake Gone?' project to provide imagery in response to a series of oral history interviews taken in Cradley Heath.  After working on the Cradley Heath section of the project I was commissioned for Oldbury & Gornal and to photograph the event's surrounding the project.

‘Where’s Our Spake Gone?’ was a Heritage Lottery Funded project that aimed to record and celebrate the distinctive dialect and language of the Black Country. The project focused upon the four Black Country towns of Tipton, Gornal, Oldbury and Cradley Heath. My work was included in the films produced by Geoff Broadway (Tipton, Cradley Heath & Oldbury) and Joseph Potts (Gornal) and in a limited edition book. You can find our more about the project here.

I was also commissioned for A Black Country Nativity, a short film featuring the voices of people across the Black Country reading Michael Prescott’s interpretation of the story, it was shown at the Tipton film screening event and is in the DVD. You can view it here.
